Baby steps.

Still catching up on New Year's resolutions from 2007. I think i've finally reached the part of the list that says "work on website".

First step: buying back weloveplove dot net and redirecting here in the meantime - check.
Second step: letting y'all know - check.

Time to go back to those web design books.

This is how we rock it in the T-Dot.

(Oh no he didn't just reference Shawn Desman!)

Dear largest city in Canada that most Americans think is the capital:

I will be visiting your fair city for a couple days to play two shows.
The first one (Friday October 23) is part of the X-Avant New Music festival, put together by the wonderful folks at the Music Gallery. I'll be performing Nicole Lizée's piece "This Will Not Be Televised" with a small ensemble, a piece that saw its world premiere in Winnipeg two years ago with yours truly and members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

X-Avant New Music Festival
Friday 23 October at 8:00pm
at Music Gallery. 197 John St (north of Queen W), Toronto

The second one (Saturday October 24) at Revival is the Toronto edition of DJ Spinna and Bobbito's legendary "Wonder-full" parties that absolutely murder NYC every time. I'll be DJing downstairs with homies Noel Dix, Felix & Gani, and John Kong. Insert clever line referencing Stevie Wonder song title here. ("You'll be Overjoyed!" or "It'll be Hotter than July!")
Wonder-full!
Featuring DJ Spinna and Bobbito
Saturday 24 October at 10:30
at Revival. 783 College St (corner Shaw), Toronto

The last time I DJ'd a party in Toronto, it was off the hook until my car got towed and the A/C broke down during the drive home during a 110-degree heatwave. When we got back to Montreal, I wrote a song called "4 inches per minute on the DVP". That '97 Outback Limited is sadly long gone and I'm flying up this time, but I look forward to seeing what songs come out of this weekend. I'm also looking forward to late-night crispy squid on Spadina and picking up new Toronto slang still star.

It's All Over. For now.

Back from the Slew tour (actually it's been 11 days but who's counting?). Thanks to everyone who came to the shows, and the Slew family! We all laughed, cried, ate some kickass food, ate some crap, and rocked the fuck out together.

(From left to right: Myles, Adira, Chris, some gay robot, Eric, Maresa, Vid, Pat, and Jessi. Photo from Adira's Facebook album)

For those of you who couldn't make it to the shows, not to worry! There were lots of tech-savvy fans who posted live performances online, like this one.

(peep Chris' keyboard jump at 2:27)

Also there are some behind-the-scenes clips on the Slew's YouTube page, like this one.

Hopefully this won't be the only time we take the Slew on the road. Perhaps if you write your local congressperson we can make something happen.

One more week.

Next week, it begins. A week of rehearsals in Montreal, then to Vancouver for the first show of the Slew tour. All of us are excited about it and you should be too. Click here to download the album.

I've also confirmed some shows in Toronto for late October. More on that later.

23 July 2009

A slew of tour dates.

I know I know, I've played a couple shows this summer without posting up here beforehand. It's a problem and i'm working on it. Montreal Jazzfest with Hove was awesome, and i'm sorry i missed the impromptu McGill Music class of '99 reunion.

So here's some advance notice. Enough in advance that I don't even have all the dates confirmed, but to both people reading this, mark your agendas...

I'll be hitting the road in September with the one they call Kid Koala for a small US/Canada tour in support of a project called "The Slew". All I can tell you for now is that the show involves six turntables and the former rhythm section from Wolfmother. Click here for a clip from the future that shows us hard at work. Shot in PixelVision by Paul Labonté. Also coming with us is the talented and hella funny Adira Amram. If she doesn't make you laugh or cry, you are dead inside.

Coming to your town soon; that is, if you happen to live in or near the following ten cities:

9/23 VANCOUVER, BC / Commodore Ballroom
9/24 SEATTLE, WA / Nectar
9/25 SAN FRANCISCO, CA / Independent
9/26 COSTA MESA, CA - Detroit Bar (Kid Koala Slew DJ Set)
9/27 LOS ANGELES, CA / Key Club
9/30 BROOKLYN, NY / Music Hall Of Williamsburg
10/1 BOSTON, MA / Great Scott
10/2 MONTREAL, QC / La Tulipe
10/3 TORONTO, ON / Lee's Palace
10/4 CHICAGO, IL / Abbey Pub

We will most likely never do this tour again after this run, so come rock out with us if you can.
See y'all there!

Prom Night: the do-over!

This Saturday, the force known as DJ Cortez and myself will be DJing at Nita Nita for their somewhat annual "Prom Night". I played myself last year when I was unable to honour someone's request to Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting". I might have made up for it with Blackbox's "Strike It Up", but nevertheless, everyone had an awesome time and this year promises more of the awesome.

Festivities start around 8 and include some kickass food, prom photographer, drink specials, and a crowning of the prom king and queen! Extra points if you wear exactly what you wore to your own prom. No cover.

Nita Nita is at 146 Wythe Ave at North 8th in Williamsburg.

28 April 2009

This week.

Sleep will be kept to a minimum this week as I prepare for...

Wednesday 4/29.
Taxi Taxi is back again at Union Hall in Park Slope. The new record is done and we're all pretty stoked about it. This show will be a bit more on the minimal side with the absence of Bryn on keys but we'll do our best to rock out.

Sunday 5/3.
Terence from Taxi Taxi and myself will be playing some songs and/or records at Poisson Rouge on Sunday night, as an opening set for our fellow McGill alumnus known as Kid Koala. This is also part of Koala's "Loud/Quiet" concept tour, which the folks at nufonia.com would be more than happy to explain. I also love how we are billed simply as "Terence and Paolo".

If you see me at Poisson Rouge and I happen to be either walking weirdly or complaining about how much my ass hurts, it's because earlier that day, Mrs P and I are also taking part in the TD Bank Five-Boro Bike Tour. 42 miles around NYC. I am excited to see all 5 boroughs of NYC on two wheels, and also kinda scared to do it with one gear. Hopefully 42/17 won't kill me on the bridge climbs. I'm a huge wuss.
