Forgot to post this up before driving up to Montreal yesterday for rehearsal...
For those of you in la belle ville dans la belle province, I'll be turning a table tonight with Soundclash, which homie Scott C describes in this week's Montreal Mirror column as a "chaos-inspired quartet". Led by Erik Hove on alto sax, who is also a fellow McGill alum (see Taxi Taxi, Kid Koala), we've been playing together since 2001 and just recently got around (by recently i mean a year ago today) to recording a full-length album for Mtl jazz label Effendi.
Tonight's show is part of L'Off Fest, which is pretty much the real deal if you want to see local Montreal jazz musicians in small dope venues. Not everyone wants to pay out the ass to see Keith Jarrett at Place-des-Arts.
Soundclash is Erik Hove on alto sax, Fraser Hollins on bass, Martin Auguste on drums, and myself on Vestax QFO

...and it's hot too!

Taxi Taxi returns to our seemingly favourite spot on June 19th. Come party with us and interrupt a bocce tournament or two.
Jamie Lidell ripped it at the Bowery Ballroom last night. Highlights included
- Andre the sax player pulling a Rahsaan Roland Kirk with an alto and baritone sax.
- "Figured Me Out" with Jamie on live auto-tune and Andre on MIDI wind-controller-turned-talkbox.
- the praying hands tambourine.
- Fangirl next to us who kept shouting "Multiply!" and sang along to all of "Game for Fools". I never understood people who sing along to entire songs at shows. While i appreciate their excitement, wouldn't the logical thing be to shut the fuck up and let the performer do their thing? She left immediately after Multiply.
- Teenage kid and his mom in the front. Mom knew the words to pretty much every song.
